Mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide (elamipretide)
Available as: 10mg, 50mg
Overview
A cell-permeable tetrapeptide (D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH₂) that concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane.
Mechanism
Binds cardiolipin, stabilising the inner membrane and electron transport chain, which improves ATP production and reduces mitochondrial reactive oxygen species.
Research highlights
- Reversed age-related cardiac diastolic dysfunction in old mice after eight weeks.
- In clinical development for mitochondrial diseases such as Barth syndrome.
Compound data
- Length
- 4 amino acids
- Also known as
