Overview
A heptapeptide (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) based on a fragment of ACTH, developed in Russia and used there for stroke and cognitive disorders.
Mechanism
Increases BDNF and its receptor TrkB in the brain and modulates dopaminergic and serotonergic systems, without hormonal ACTH activity.
Research highlights
- A single intranasal application raised hippocampal BDNF and TrkB signalling in rats.
- Used in Russia for ischaemic stroke and cognitive impairment.
