MOTS-c
Mitochondrial-derived peptide
Available as: 10mg, 40mg
Overview
A 16-amino-acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene, first described in 2015.
Mechanism
Acts mainly on skeletal muscle: it inhibits the folate cycle, which leads to AICAR accumulation and AMPK activation, improving glucose uptake and insulin sensitivity. Under stress it can move to the nucleus and regulate gene expression.

- Improved physical performance in young, middle-aged and old mice, acting as an exercise mimetic.
- Circulating levels decline with age in humans.
