Overview
The tripeptide Lys-Pro-Val, the C-terminal end of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone, which carries much of its anti-inflammatory activity.
Mechanism
Inhibits NF-κB signalling and pro-inflammatory cytokine production. It is taken up into intestinal cells through the PepT1 transporter.
Research highlights
- Reduced colitis in mouse models, including when delivered orally in nanoparticles.
- Anti-inflammatory effects without the pigmentation effects of full α-MSH.
