Cagrilintide
Long-acting amylin analogue
Available as: 5mg, 10mg
Overview
An acylated analogue of the pancreatic hormone amylin, developed by Novo Nordisk with a long half-life that supports once-weekly administration in trials.
Mechanism
A non-selective agonist of amylin and calcitonin receptors. Amylin signalling in the hindbrain promotes satiety, slows gastric emptying and suppresses post-meal glucagon.
Research highlights
- Phase 2 (Lancet 2021): dose-dependent weight loss versus placebo; the highest dose outperformed liraglutide 3.0 mg.
- Studied as a partner for semaglutide in the CagriSema programme.
